Baseball Game Preview: Sheldon Huskies vs. Laguna Creek Cardinals

For the second straight game, Sheldon will face off against Laguna Creek. The Huskies will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against the Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. Sheldon has now lost 11 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 19.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Sheldon's offense. They came up short against Laguna Creek on Tuesday, falling 10-0. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

For Laguna Creek's part, David Romero looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Romero also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Cardinals are 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-9 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Laguna Creek got a big performance out of Tyger Peterson, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave Peterson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sam Stires, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Laguna Creek hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive matches.

Laguna Creek is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Sheldon, their loss dropped their record down to 3-14.
