Softball Recap: Hough Beats South Iredell for Their Ninth Straight Victory

Hough had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.9 runs) and they went ahead and made it nine on Tuesday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the South Iredell Vikings. This was payback for the Huskies, who suffered a 4-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Payton Elwell made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits. Elwell was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Elwell wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Reagan Waldau, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Ashlyn Rogers was another, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Hough's win was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games. As for South Iredell, they moved to 8-8 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Hough has already played their next match, a 17-0 win against Chambers on the 9th. As for South Iredell, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 15-0 victory against West Cabarrus on the 11th.
