League recap: Alhambra scores huge upset over Schurr

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Schurr, who took down 575th ranked Schurr, 24-21. Armando Amaya threw for 142 yards and one touchdown and ran for two yards in the win.

Alhambra moved up to 763 from 835 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Almont. The Moors were able to make move up by beating the Spartans 24-21.

San Gabriel's dynamic duo of Marqus Valenzuela and Joseph Mayorga proved tough for Keppel to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Valenzuela threw for 440 yards and four touchdowns and Mayorga had 86 yards receiving. Isai Fernandez helped San Gabriel's passing attack out by catching six balls for 78 yards.

Ezra Broadus was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 26 carries, he ran for 81 yards as Alhambra bested the Aztecs. Daniel Diaz also contributed to the rushing game with 10 yards on the ground.

San Gabriel's Valenzuela and Mayorga have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Valenzuela has thrown for 2410 yards this season, while Mayorga has 30 catches for 718 yards. Broadus from Joe Kanach's team leads the league in rushing with 690 yards.

A big matchup in Almont this week will be when the Moors take on Montebello. Alhambra is in third place, while the Oilers are in second place.

There should be lots of points scored when Jude Oliva's team and Bell Gardens face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Matadors comes in having scored 259 this season, while the Lancers have scored 191. San Gabriel scored 49 points last week as it topped Keppel.

The Matadors took down Aaron Sepulveda's team 49-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Valenzuela ran for 41 yards in the win.
