Preview: Commerce Tigers vs. George Walton Academy Bulldogs
The Commerce Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the George Walton Academy Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Commerce will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 384th, while George Walton Academy is ranked 190th).
Commerce pushed their score all the way to 60 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They lost to Banks County on the road by a decisive 74-60 margin. Commerce has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The losing side was boosted by Evan Peters, who scored 24 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals. The matchup was his third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Tyler Sorrells, who scored 14 points along with 6 assists.
Meanwhile, even though Prince Avenue Christian scored an imposing 58 points on Thursday, George Walton Academy still came out on top. George Walton Academy took their matchup against Prince Avenue Christian 68-58. The win made it back-to-back wins for George Walton Academy.
George Walton Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Logan Blalock, who scored 21 points along with 6 rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Blalock has scored at least 25% of George Walton Academy's points. Isiah Sloan was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
The losses dropped Commerce to 3-5 and Banks County to 2-4.
Commerce suffered a grim 63-38 defeat to George Walton Academy in their previous meeting back in November. Can Commerce avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
