Softball Recap: Workman Wins Going Away Against Edgewood

Workman lost to Edgewood back in April, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Lobos put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 12-5 win. The Lobos might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by seven runs or more this season.

McKenna Weller made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off eight hits. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kimberly Cruz, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two). Leana Sanchez was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.

The victory made it two in a row for Workman and bumps their season record up to 8-6. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-10 Pomona and 3-9 Edgewood. As for Edgewood, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.

Workman will head out to face off against Ganesha at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Giants will roll in looking for their 18th straight win, something the Lobos surely won't give up without a fight. As for Edgewood, they will face off against Pomona at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
