Basketball Recap: Grand Junction Central Comes Up Short

Grand Junction Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a blow against the Grand Junction Tigers, falling 65-27. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 226th, while the Tigers are ranked 98th).

Grand Junction Central's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rylie Hoyt, who posted 11 points. The dominant performance also gave Hoyt a new career-high in blocks (two).

Grand Junction got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Grant Lewis out in front who went 5-for-10 on his way to 12 points. Thanks to that strong game, Lewis now owns an excellent 45.2% shooting accuracy. Another player making a difference was Noah Schmalz, who went 5-for-9 to rack up 14 points.

Grand Junction Central's loss dropped their record down to 3-19. As for Grand Junction, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-10.

Coming up, Grand Junction Central will take on Palisade at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Grand Junction, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 32-30 victory against Montrose on the 18th.
