Baseball Recap: Somerset Academy Wins Going Away Against Mater Lakes Academy

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Somerset Academy had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Mater Lakes Academy Bears with a sharp 10-3 victory. This was a revenge game for the Panthers: when they faced off against the Bears back in February, they had to take a 5-3 defeat.

Somerset Academy got a great performance from Luis Rivera as he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Rivera has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Hector Sanchez was a standout: he scored three runs and stole six bases. He is becoming a predictor of Somerset Academy's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 9-14 when he doesn't). Jon Mora was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Somerset Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They are 6-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Somerset Academy's record now sits at 11-15. As for Mater Lakes Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-12-4.

Coming up, Somerset Academy will face off against American Heritage at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Patriots will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Panthers surely won't give up without a fight. Mater Lakes Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
