Softball Recap: Loyd Star Makes It Six in a Row at Home

It's playoff time, and Loyd Star had no trouble coming through when it counted. They put the hurt on the Pelahatchie Chiefs with a sharp 8-0 win on Saturday. Considering the Hornets have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

The result came thanks to Layla Burt's shutout, as she gave up just five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Maddie Kate Britt was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Xia Townsend, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Loyd Star's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Pelahatchie, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-8 record this season.

As of now, neither Loyd Star nor Pelahatchie have any future games scheduled.
