Soccer Recap: Weir Comes Up Short

If Weir was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Harrison Central last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Red Riders came up short against the Steubenville Big Red on Tuesday, falling 7-4. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Weir came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' soccer rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 56th in West Virginia, while Steubenville are ranked 201st in Ohio).

Weir hit Steubenville with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Kalen Kuhns (2), Caiden Lamp, and Jake Bishof.

Weir now has a losing record of 7-8. As for Steubenville, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4-1 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Weir will square off against St. Clairsville at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Weir's defense better be ready for this one: St. Clairsville have averaged an impressive 2.8 goals per game this season. As for Steubenville, they will take on Catholic Central at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
