Slocum had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 1-10 to make it ten. They fell just short of the Oakwood Panthers by a score of 16-14. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (13), the Mustangs still had to take the loss.
Bridger Hobson put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Slocum got a massive performance out of Creede Kessel, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That triple was Kessel's first of the season. Brooks Eason was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
As for Oakwood, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-9. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.6 runs.
On Oakwood's side, Dayden Velasquez was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. The Panthers are 6-1 when Velasquez posts two or more runs, but 1-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Brady Harrison, who went 1-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Slocum will face off against Tyler HEAT at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Slocum's pitchers better be ready for this one: Tyler HEAT has averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season. As for Oakwood, they will square off against North Zulch at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
