Preview: Mayfield Panthers vs. Northville Falcons
Mayfield has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Northville Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Mayfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Thursday.
Mayfield suffered their biggest defeat since December 7, 2023 on Thursday. Their rough 66-40 loss to Stillwater might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Mayfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 358th, while Stillwater is ranked 157th).
Mayfield's loss came about despite a quality game from Cloey Dopp, who scored 23 points along with two steals. Dopp is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Klymkow, who scored two points.
Meanwhile, Northville strolled past Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville with points to spare on Wednesday, taking the game 47-32. The victory was just what Northville needed coming off of a 44-23 loss in their prior matchup.
Mayfield's loss dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Northville, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season.
Things could have been worse for Mayfield, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 60-45 loss to Northville in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Can Mayfield avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
