Softball Recap: Park Takes a Loss

Park extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 16 on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-10. They came up short against the Laurel Locomotives, falling 15-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

As for Laurel, they pushed their record up to 11-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The result was nothing new for the Locomotives, who have now won nine matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

For Laurel's part, Claire Anderson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. Anderson has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Bella Mares was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted over her last nine games. The team also got some help courtesy of Paisley Leeds, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Park will face off against Lockwood at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Laurel, they will venture away from home to challenge East Helena at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Locomotives' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vigilantes have averaged an impressive 9.4 runs per game this season.
