Preview: Munroe Bobcats vs. Godby Cougars
Munroe has been on the road for two straight, but on Wednesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Godby Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Monday, everything came up roses for Munroe on the road against North Florida Christian as the team secured a 52-22 victory. That 52-22 margin sets a new team best for Munroe this season.
Munroe's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mya Mccullar, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds and three blocks. Mccullar is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Aariyonni Thomas was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Godby entered their tilt with Wakulla with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Godby claimed a resounding 63-17 victory over Wakulla at home. The result was nothing new for Godby, who have now won six matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.
Kenijah Clayton and Aniyah Lewis were among the main playmakers for Godby as the former scored nine points along with 13 steals and six assists and the latter almost dropped a triple-double on 14 points, 13 rebounds, and nine steals. That's the first time this season that Lewis pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Zaniah Andrews, who scored 15 points.
Munroe now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Godby, they pushed their record up to 7-2 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Wednesday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Munroe have been dynamite from deep this season, having only made 34% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Godby struggles in that department as they've made 54.3% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Munroe took their victory against Godby in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 by a conclusive 47-27. Does Munroe have another victory up their sleeve, or will Godby turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
