Softball Recap: Springfield Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Springfield, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Taylorville Tornadoes 4-3. The win continues a trend for the Senators in their matchups with the Tornadoes: they've now won four in a row.

Mia Volpert made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Maya Bennett was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Springfield's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Taylorville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-15 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Springfield will face off against North Mac at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Taylorville, they will take on Effingham at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Hearts will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Tornadoes surely won't give up without a fight.
