Basketball Recap: Cherokee Trail Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Cherokee Trail and Rangeview squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Cherokee Trail had to settle for second. They took a blow against the Rangeview Raiders, falling 62-25. The matchup marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why Cherokee Trail lost, don't look at Vince Guthrie. Despite the final result, he posted six points and five boards. Guthrie is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 60% in the last three games he's played.

Rangeview was led to victory by Kenny Black-Knox and Marceles Duncan. Black-Knox went 7-for-12 to rack up 18 points and eight rebounds, while Duncan put up 14 points in addition to five boards and four steals. That's the most points Black-Knox has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Archie Weatherspoon V, who earned ten points.

Cherokee Trail has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-15 record this season. The win keeps them at an undefeated 24-0.

Cherokee Trail does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Rangeview, they will be playing at home against George Washington at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Rangeview's favor as the team sits on 17 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while George Washington has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
