Baseball Recap: Dudley Comes Up Short

Dudley had lost four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 3-14 to make it five. They lost 20-3 to the Grimsley Whirlies. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 7-6 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2023.

Dudley saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jamaree McCray, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one RBI. John Madden also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

As for Grimsley, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-3. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by seven runs or more this season.

On Grimsley's side, Tai Richmond made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Richmond has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adam Takacs, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Max Snyder was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Grimsley will take on Northern Guilford at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Dudley will be paying especially close attention to the Whirlies' game: after the Whirlies face off against the Nighthawks, they'll take on Dudley again at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
