On Saturday, Purvis faced Columbia Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Purvis Tornadoes put the hurt on the Columbia Academy Cougars with a sharp 12-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Tornadoes, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Nash Teater tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Drew Swan was a standout: he scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was JoJo Parker, who scored three runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Purvis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Purvis' win bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Columbia Academy, with the loss, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-3.

Coming up, Purvis will be taking part in a tournament against Oak Forest Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Oak Forest Academy 1, Purvis 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Columbia Academy, they will challenge Briarcrest Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Columbia Academy's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Briarcrest Christian's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
