Baseball Recap: Babcock Triumphs

Babcock proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by eight) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Golden Gate Titans 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Trailblazers have posted since March 10th.

Carter Flavelle and Rayden Waletko made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Flavelle tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Meanwhile, Waletko kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. What's more, Flavelle posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. At bat, Flavelle went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double, while Waletko went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Babcock is undefeated when Waletko posts three or more hits, but 5-13 otherwise.

In other batting news, Babcock let Paxton Cooper and Brodie Hunter run wild. Cooper got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base, while Hunter went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Cooper is becoming a predictor of Babcock's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-2 (and 4-11 when he doesn't).

Babcock is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-13 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Golden Gate, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-14.

The future could be bright for both Babcock and Golden Gate: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. The Trailblazers will try to hand Sarasota Christian their third-straight loss when the two meet at 12:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Golden Gate will look to extend East Lee County's four-game losing streak when they meet at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
