Basketball Recap: Wekiva Comes Up Short

Wekiva lost against Colonial back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Wekiva Mustangs fell 56-49 to the Colonial Grenadiers. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Colonial found their leader in sophomore Yaneyla Pedraza, who went 10 of 23 on her way to 36 points and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Pedraza has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Iliana Dorvilus, who posted seven points and eight rebounds.

Wekiva's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Colonial, they pushed their record up to 6-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Wekiva and Colonial could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Wekiva (ranked 254th) will meet Oak Ridge (ranked 115th) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, Colonial (ranked 290th) will meet Lake Howell (ranked 72nd) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
