Football Preview: Williamson Lions vs. Elmore County Panthers
The Williamson Lions will face off against the Elmore County Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Williamson comes in on ten and Elmore County on four.
Williamson is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Eufaula 50-14. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won nine games by 28 points or more so far this season.
Todrick Withers was his usual excellent self, rushing for 231 yards and one score while picking up 8.0 yards per carry, and also picking up 36 receiving yards and one TD. His longest rush was for an incredible 71 yards. Another player making a difference was Alvin Dinkins, who threw for 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 15 passes.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Williamson was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 273 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Williamson's defense and their 3.5 sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Jamarcus Lett, Demarcus Dale-Brown, and Dontaye Bush, who each picked up one sack apiece. Lett was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 16 total tackles.
Meanwhile, Elmore County posted their closest win since August 22nd on Friday. They slipped by Demopolis 21-20.
Williamson better keep an eye on Gage Davis. He was instrumental in Elmore County's win, throwing for 183 yards and a pair of TDs.
