Softball Recap: Payson Continues Road Dominance on Monday

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Payson ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the Mountain View Bruins 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Bruins: they've now won eight in a row.

Peyton Staheli spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on one hit and racked up 16 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Payson saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mahaila Buys, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Payson's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Mountain View, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season.

Payson will welcome Provo at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.59 runs per game on average), something the Lions will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Mountain View, they will venture away from home to take on Timpanogos at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bruins' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Timberwolves have averaged an impressive 10.7 runs per game this season.
