Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for River Valley

River Valley had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. Everything went their way against the Odyssey Institute Minotaur as they made off with an 11-1 victory. That's two games straight that the Dust Devils have won by exactly ten runs.

Sophia Reyes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run.

In other batting news, Peyton Beggs and Taliyah Gonzalez did most of the damage at the plate: Beggs went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and one double, while Gonzalez went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Cherity Gonzalez, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

River Valley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in four consecutive contests.

River Valley now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Odyssey Institute, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. River Valley will take on Tonopah Valley at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Odyssey Institute, they will challenge Seton Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
