Softball Recap: Mineral Point Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Mineral Point had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Southwestern Wildcats a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Pointers have won seven games by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Mineral Point's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Southwestern, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.

Mineral Point will take on Prairie du Chien at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Pointers 3.2, the Blackhawks 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Southwestern, they are taking a road trip to square off against Platteville at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
