League recap: Jackson Academy enters state Top 25 with win

Jackson Academy was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after besting Magnolia Heights. The Raiders came in at 23 in the state poll after placing at number 28 last week.

Madison Ridgeland Academy extended the longest winning streak in MAIS AAA I District 1 this week by beating Lee Academy, 44-20. The victory was the ninth in a row for the team.

Madison Ridgeland Academy's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Caleb Shufelt threw for 278 and three touchdowns and Michael Gordon had 163 yards receiving. On the ground Zack Everhart chipped in 54 yards. Zach McCraw helped Madison Ridgeland Academy's passing attack out by catching six balls for 63 yards.

Forrest Williams' team's Shufelt and Will Trammell have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Shufelt has thrown for 1393 yards this season, while Trammell has 43 catches for 815 yards. Nick Guy from Jackson Academy leads the league in rushing with 1001 yards.

The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Madison Ridgeland Academy takes on second place Jackson Academy. Last week, the Patriots topped the Colts, while David Skyes' team defeated the Chiefs.

There should be lots of points scored when the Raiders and Madison Ridgeland Academy face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Jackson Academy comes in having scored 301 this season, while the Patriots have scored 311. The Raiders scored 42 points last week as they defeated Magnolia Heights.

Jackson Academy took down Cliff Young's team 42-14 last week, the largest margin of any game.
