Baseball Game Preview: Healdsburg Greyhounds vs. Montgomery Vikings

The Healdsburg Greyhounds are taking a road trip to challenge the Montgomery Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Healdsburg's pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so Montgomery's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Montgomery will be up against a hot Healdsburg squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Greyhounds' pitcher stepped up to hand The Bay School an 11-0 shutout on Saturday. The Greyhounds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by six runs or more this season.

Alex Mauro-Manos looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, Xander Harms was a standout: he scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Andrew Greene also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Healdsburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 15 runs the game before, Montgomery was a bit more limited in their matchup on Saturday. They lost 8-1 to Vintage. The defeat continues a trend for the Vikings in their meetings with the Crushers: they've now lost four in a row.

Montgomery saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryder Dienhart, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Dienhart is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

Montgomery's loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Healdsburg, their record is now 9-4.

Healdsburg suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to Montgomery in their previous meeting last Saturday. Can the Greyhounds avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
