Preview: Northgate Broncos vs. Benicia Panthers
The Northgate Broncos will be playing in front of their home fans against the Benicia Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Benicia took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Northgate, who comes in off a win.
Northgate fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They came out on top against Alhambra by a score of 28-17 on Friday.
Northgate had a senior duo take command as Ben Hosler rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries and Jake Berger gained 138 total yards and two touchdowns. Hosler's longest rush was for an incredible 71 yards.
Meanwhile, Benicia fought the good fight in their overtime contest against College Park on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Falcons 26-20.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Myles Cooper, who picked up 22 receiving yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 85 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Valdez, who picked up 120 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Northgate's victory bumped their record up to 2-7. As for Benicia, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 2-7.
Northgate skirted past Benicia 9-7 when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Will Northgate repeat their success, or does Benicia have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
