Preview: Roosevelt Roughriders vs. Eastern Ramblers
The Roosevelt Roughriders will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Eastern Ramblers at 5:30 p.m. on January 26th. Hopefully Roosevelt focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 last Wednesday.
Last Wednesday, Roosevelt faced Ballou in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Roosevelt claimed a resounding 55-23 victory over Ballou on the road. Roosevelt has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 20 points or more this season.
Roosevelt got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Lamar'sha Wilson out in front who scored 15 points along with six steals. Wilson hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalyn Russ, who scored seven points along with nine steals.
Meanwhile, Eastern strolled past Banneker with points to spare on Wednesday, taking the game 53-37. Eastern pushed the score to 43-20 by the end of the third, a deficit Banneker cut but never quite recovered from.
Samia Greene was her usual excellent self, scoring 30 points along with three steals. Greene is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Lanaia Martin was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds.
Roosevelt now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Eastern, their win bumped their record up to 11-5.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Roosevelt have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 20.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Eastern struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Roosevelt against Eastern in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 as the squad secured a 29-2 victory. Does Roosevelt have another victory up their sleeve, or will Eastern turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
