Waverly extended their winning streak to eight games thanks to a huge performance from Nathan Axmann. The Vikings skirted past the Norris Titans 45-42 thanks in part to Axmann, who rushed for 211 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.5 yards per carry, and also picked up 140 receiving yards and one TD. He was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 65 yards.
Brockston Teply was another key player, throwing for 374 yards and three TDs while picking up 13.9 yards per attempt. He is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last five games he's played.
Waverly didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. Gavin McMillan was the real danger to the passing game, picking up three interceptions all by himself.
Several Titans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kyson Gana, who picked up 224 receiving yards and four scores. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Greenfield, who threw for 310 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.9 yards per attempt.
Waverly's record is now 8-0. As for Norris, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 7-1.
Waverly and Norris should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings. The Vikings (ranked third) will meet Pius X (ranked 60th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Norris will take on Elkhorn at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (8 vs. 80).
