Baseball Recap: Shady Spring Extends Winning Streak to Five

Shady Spring waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They were the clear victors by an 11-5 margin over the Riverside Warriors. Considering the Tigers have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Colyn Smith looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Aiden Calvert, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted over his last 11 games. Another player making a difference was Brody Seabolt, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI and one double.

Shady Spring pushed their record up to 15-10-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Riverside, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-16.

Coming up, Shady Spring will take on PikeView at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. As for Riverside, they will square off against Oak Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Red Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.29 runs per game on average), something the Warriors will no doubt try to take advantage of.
