Preview: Cottonwood Colts vs. Stansbury Stallions
Two dominant guards in John Rosevear and Aidan Pehrson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Cottonwood Colts will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Stansbury Stallions at 7:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Cottonwood's favor as the team sits on 14 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Stansbury has been banged up by 16 consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
Last Thursday, Cottonwood didn't have too much trouble with Hillcrest on the road as they won 68-51. That looming 68-51 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Cottonwood yet this season.
Cottonwood's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Peter Oguama, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Nielson, who scored 14 points.
Meanwhile, Stansbury pushed their score all the way to 63 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 70-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of Jordan.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Will Stephens, who scored 16 points. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Luke Rich, who scored 16 points.
Even though they lost, Stansbury were working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. This was only their ninth loss (out of 12 games) when they've passed the ball that well.
Cottonwood is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. As for Stansbury, their loss dropped their record down to 3-12.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Cottonwood hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 63.6 points per game. It's a different story for Stansbury, though, as they've been averaging only 54.5 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Everything came up roses for Cottonwood against Stansbury when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as the squad secured a 71-44 win. With Cottonwood ahead 38-14 at the half, the match was all but over already.
