Baseball Recap: Immokalee's Losing Streak Snapped at Five Games

Immokalee made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Gateway Charter, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Immokalee Indians put the hurt on the Gateway Charter Griffins with a sharp 11-2 victory on Thursday. The game was the first time the Indians have beaten the Griffins on their field since March 21, 2017.

Aiden Puente made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. Puente was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in stolen bases.

In other batting news, Immokalee let Adrian Ramirez and Ruben Anzualda run wild. Ramirez got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run and two RBI, while Anzualda scored a run while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave Anzualda a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Diego Gutierrez, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Immokalee was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

With the win, Immokalee broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-8. As for Gateway Charter, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.

Looking ahead, Immokalee will square off against Donahue Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gateway Charter will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Estero at 7:00 p.m. on March 25th. Gateway Charter has given up an average of 8.3 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
