Baseball Recap: Silver Comes Up Short

Silver extended their losing streak to eight on Thursday, dropping them down to 8-13. They lost 13-2 to the Deming Wildcats. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, with their most recent loss being a 17-6 defeat on Thursday.

As for Deming, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-3 record this season. Considering they have won 15 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

For Deming's part, Estevan Mariscal was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Mariscal has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2025.

In other batting news, Pablo Covarrubias and Max Allison did most of the damage at the plate: Covarrubias went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Allison went 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Covarrubias has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Daniel Porras was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Silver will take on Da Vinci at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Deming, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Santa Teresa at 7:00 p.m. on the 27th. The Wildcats will need to watch out since the Warriors have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups.
