Football Recap: Tyler Lynch's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sumner over Armwood + How To Watch

Sumner lost against Armwood back in August of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Stingrays took a hard 31-14 fall against the Hawks. While losing is never fun, the Stingrays can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 96th, while the Hawks are ranked 34th).

Several Stingrays players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tyler Lynch, who picked up 124 receiving yards and one score.

While Sumner came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for Armwood: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 41.2%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Jameris Conyers and Jonathan Rollins, who each logged two passes deflected. Sumner wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 50%.

The critical scores for Armwood came from Micah Hudgens, Rhys Brush, Allonzo Williams, and Desean Sharrieff.

Sumner's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Armwood, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Looking ahead, Sumner will welcome Wharton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Armwood, they are headed away from home for the first time to take on Tampa Bay Tech at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
