Basketball Recap: Haven Flagle's Big Game Can't Quite Lead New Palestine over Roncalli

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact New Palestine can now relate to. They took a 59-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Roncalli Royals on Saturday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Dragons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 46-36 back in January.

Several Dragons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Haven Flagle, who posted ten points and five assists. Those five assists gave Flagle a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kylee Beranek, who earned nine points.

Flagle wasn't the only one working in the assist department: New Palestine was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Roncalli found their leader in sophomore Elliot Leffler, who almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine rebounds. Leffler continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sara Rosko, who had seven points along with seven assists and six boards.

New Palestine's defeat dropped their record down to 12-12. As for Roncalli, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a massive bump to their 16-8 record this season.

New Palestine does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Roncalli, they will face off against Danville at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Danville sitting on four straight wins and Roncalli on seven.
