Softball Recap: Lake Station Edison Comes Up Short

Lake Station Edison extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-12 in the process. They came up short against the Wheeler Bearcats, falling 13-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bearcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 on Monday.

As for Wheeler, they pushed their record up to 11-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The result was nothing new for the Bearcats, who have now won seven contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

For Wheeler's part, Nora Howell made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Howell has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Wheeler got a massive performance out of Olivia Hessling, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those two triples gave Hessling a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Allen, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lake Station Edison will welcome River Forest at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Wheeler, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Westville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
