Pawnee City had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They managed a 28-22 win over the Meridian Mustangs on Friday. The victory was nothing new for the Indians as they're now sitting on nine straight dating back to last season.

Pawnee City found their leader in sophomore Payton Rose, who rushed for 133 yards.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Pawnee City proved: they limited Meridian to a paltry 1.9 yards per carry. The team can thank Atreyu Kling for the heroic effort on defense: he. Pawnee City's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 5.3.

Pawnee City's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. Dylan Layne was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself.

Maddox Haake and Jayton Jones certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Haake gained 131 total yards and two touchdowns, while Jones threw for 165 yards and one TD on only 14 passes.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pawnee City will look to takes advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Dorchester at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Meridian, they will challenge Diller-Odell at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
