Softball Game Preview: Shawnee Braves vs. Graham Local Falcons

The Shawnee Braves will head out on the road to face off against the Graham Local Falcons at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Shawnee has four straight wins, Graham Local has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Graham Local's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Monday: Shawnee hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Braves put the hurt on London with a sharp 17-0 victory on Saturday. Considering the Braves have won 11 matches by more than eight runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Alee Trimmer tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 15 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Maura Simpson and Lily Wilson did most of the damage at the plate: Simpson went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple, while Wilson went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave Wilson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Addy Plummer, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.

Shawnee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Graham Local lost 12-2 to London on Thursday.

Shawnee's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 21-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Graham Local, their loss dropped their record down to 3-13.

Shawnee took their win against Graham Local in their previous meeting on Wednesday by a conclusive 13-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Braves since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
