Baseball Game Preview: St. Charles East Fighting Saints vs. Plainfield South Cougars

The St. Charles East Fighting Saints are taking a road trip to square off against the Plainfield South Cougars at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday. St. Charles East is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.

On Wednesday, St. Charles East earned a 12-7 win over Glenbard North.

Matthew Steinberg looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Joey Arend was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for St. Charles East: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Antonio Perez also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Meanwhile, Plainfield South got themselves on the board against Bolingbrook on Thursday, but Bolingbrook never followed suit. They blew past the Raiders 7-0. The Cougars not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 31st (when they won 11-1).

The victory got St. Charles East back to even at 6-6. As for Plainfield South, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-8.

St. Charles East came up short against Plainfield South in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 8-4. Can the Fighting Saints avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
