Basketball Recap: Marceline Tigers vs. Westran Hornets

Marceline lost against Westran back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Marceline Tigers were dealt a 72-35 loss at the hands of the Westran Hornets. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 504th, while the Hornets are ranked 146th).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Westran to victory, but perhaps none more so than Marshall Kitchen, who went 7-for-12 on his way to 14 points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Kitchen a new career-high in assists (four). Jordan Black was another key player, going 6-for-10 to rack up 13 points and six steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Marceline and nudges their season record down to 1-5. As for Westran, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season.

Marceline didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 71-29 defeat against Maysville on the 7th. As for Westran, they have also already played their next contest, a 53-33 victory against Paris/Faith Walk Academy on the 11th.
