Riverton Parke and Covington are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Panthers will square off against the Trojans at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Riverton Parke is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They never let Faith Christian get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. Considering the Panthers have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Meanwhile, Covington came tearing into Wednesday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 16-13 win over the Red Ramblers. The Trojans' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Creux Rieman made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Covington is undefeated when Rieman posts two or more runs, but 8-9 otherwise.
In other batting news, Covington got a massive performance out of Kaden Smith, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most runs Smith has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Cian Moore, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Covington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .514 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Riverton Parke is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Covington, their record now sits at 15-9.
