Softball Game Preview: Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints vs. Nansemond River Warriors

The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints will take on the Nansemond River Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Nansemond-Suffolk Academy has eight straight victories, Nansemond River has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 14-run drubbing they dealt Currituck County on Friday. The Saints blew past the Knights 15-1. The result was nothing new for the Saints, who have now won ten matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Nansemond River didn't have quite enough to beat Salem on Friday and fell 5-3.

Nansemond River saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Logan Greenwood, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. Demetria Burton was another, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Nansemond River, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy took their win against Nansemond River when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-0 score. Do the Saints have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
