Basketball Recap: Jefferson County Comes Up Short

Jefferson County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss. They had to suffer through a 66-24 loss at the hands of the Dodge County Indians. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 466th, while the Indians are ranked 177th).

Jefferson County's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaelissia Reeves, who posted four points along with 11 rebounds and three steals. Reeves has been hot recently, having posted ten or more boards the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Sha'Niah Pitts, who put up four points in addition to seven steals and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Jefferson County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Jefferson County's loss dropped their record down to 4-17. As for Dodge County, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 12-10 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jefferson County will head out to challenge Washington County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Dodge County, they will head out on the road to face off against Dublin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
