Basketball Recap: Ellington Takes a Loss

Ellington was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 60-36 to the St. Paul Lutheran Giants, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Whippets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Giants apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2019.

Brooklyn Weibrecht continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for St. Paul Lutheran, going 8 for 16 en route to 16 points in addition to eight boards and five steals. Weibrecht is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last ten games she's played. Another player making a difference was Josie Berkery, who posted seven points along with six boards and five assists.

Ellington's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for St. Paul Lutheran, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-5.

Ellington will be playing in front of their home fans against Westwood Baptist Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Westwood Baptist Academy's defense has only allowed 25.7 points per game this season, so Ellington's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for St. Paul Lutheran, they will venture away from home to square off against South Iron at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
