The Oxford Prep Griffins will head out to take on the Falls Lake Firebirds at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Oxford Prep will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Falls Lake's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Wednesday: Oxford Prep hadn't allowed a single run the last four times they've hit the field. The Griffins never let Crossroads Christian get on the board and left with a 7-0 victory on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Griffins, who have now won seven matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Not much got past Tanner Abbott, who gave up just three hits and racked up 13 Ks to keep Crossroads Christian off the board. Abbott has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Drew West, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Hunter Woodlief, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Falls Lake earned a 4-0 win over NCSSM: Durham last Tuesday. The Firebirds haven't had any issues with the Unicorns recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
The result came thanks to Jacob Watson's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up 19 Ks. Falls Lake is 2-1 when Watson posts eight or more strikeouts, but 3-4 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Dalton Parker was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Oxford Prep pushed their record up to 9-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Falls Lake, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Oxford Prep has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Falls Lake struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Oxford Prep took their victory against Falls Lake in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 7-1 score. Do the Griffins have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Firebirds turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
