Softball Recap: Brewer's Winning Streak Snapped at Five Games

Brewer dropped their record down to 5-3 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They fell 6-1 to the Camden Hills Windjammers. If the Witches were looking for revenge after losing 10-5 to the Windjammers when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Sara Young spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits.

At the plate, Brewer saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jill Ford, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base marked the first that Ford has snagged this season.

As for Camden Hills, they pushed their record up to 6-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games.

On Camden Hills' side, Maya Stone made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Stone has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Thea Laukka, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games she's played. Evangelene Morneau was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Brewer is set to face off against their familiar foe Hampden at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Witches 3.6, the Broncos 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Camden Hills will take on rival Lewiston at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
