Football Recap: Flatonia Takes a Loss

After flying high against Sacred Heart last Friday, Flatonia came back down to earth. The Bulldogs were beaten by the Nixon-Smiley Mustangs 47-17 on Friday. If the Bulldogs were looking for revenge after losing 43-14 to the Mustangs when the teams met back in September of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Nixon-Smiley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Joe White led the charge by rushing for 131 yards and one score on only seven carries, while also picking up 58 receiving yards and one touchdown. White's longest reception was for an impressive 58 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per catch total. Julian Amaya was in the mix as well, providing Nixon-Smiley with two TDs.

Having lost for the first time this season, Flatonia fell to 2-1. As for Nixon-Smiley, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.

Looking ahead, Flatonia will be playing at home against Three Rivers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Nixon-Smiley, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Cotulla at 7:00 p.m. on the 26th. The matchup will give the Mustangs their first taste of in-conference action this season.
