Volleyball Recap: Gorham Takes Down Ranked York

Gorham faced York in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Rams won by a set and slipped past the Wildcats 3-2. This was payback for the Rams, who suffered a 3-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Gorham got the W, but it wasn't easy, at least in the fourth set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 23-25, 16-25, 31-29, 15-13.

Lauren Dunbar paced Gorham's offense, picking up nine kills. Dunbar got some help from Liana Edwards and her 20 assists. Edwards also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Addyson Simcock, each putting up four.

York's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isabella Parrotta, who had 21 digs, nine kills, three aces, and two blocks. Parrotta is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 19 or more in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Maya Babcock, who had 44 digs and six assists.

Gorham has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. Having lost for the first time this season, York fell to 11-1.

Gorham has already played their next match, a 3-0 victory against Bonny Eagle on the 18th. As for York, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 win against Washington Academy on the 16th.
