Basketball Recap: Hadley Griffiths' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Milford over Wayne

Milford suffered their closest loss since February 14, 2024 on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Wayne Badgers by a score of 53-50. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Badgers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Milford's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hadley Griffiths, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Karsydi Vestch, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, Milford smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 13 consecutive matchups.

Wayne found their leader in sophomore AJ VanDyke, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten boards. VanDyke has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Lilly Morrill was another key player, putting up seven points.

Milford's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Wayne, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Milford will host Bryce Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Wayne, they will take on Piute at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th.
