Preview: Milford Eagles vs. Anderson Raptors
The Milford Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Anderson Raptors at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Milford has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell just short of Turpin by a score of 45-43. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Milford came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 71st, while the Spartans are ranked 257th).
Despite the defeat, Milford had strong showings from Violet Shuluga, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds, and Kelsey McKenney, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Gabby Chadwell, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
Milford struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They are 11-6 when they can't control their own glass like that.
Meanwhile, Anderson's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their seventh straight defeat. They fell to Loveland 38-33. Anderson has struggled against the Tigers recently, as their match on Monday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Milford's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-7. As for Anderson, they dropped their record down to 2-18 with that loss, which was their third straight at home.
Everything came up roses for Milford against the Raptors in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 62-29 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Milford since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
