Baseball Game Preview: Germantown Mavericks vs. Starkville Yellowjackets

The Germantown Mavericks will face off against the Starkville Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Germantown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.

Germantown's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They put the hurt on Terry with a sharp 9-0 win. The Mavericks haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Chase Boutwell looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Germantown is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-7 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Dylan Everett, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Ashton Smith was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Germantown hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Meanwhile, Starkville faced Madison Central in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Starkville fell just short of Madison Central by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Yellowjackets have suffered since April 26, 2024.

Starkville saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Torian Knox, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

The win got Germantown back to even at 9-9. As for Starkville, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-7.

Germantown beat Starkville 7-4 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Does Germantown have another victory up their sleeve, or will Starkville turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
